Thralls bug out like that sometimes when you switch to a weapon with a different attack animation. As long as you only switch weapons with the same attack animation it should be fine. The truncheon and other maces use the same animation. Maces are pretty good right now anyways. Aja's Bane is one of the top thrall weapons atm.
